Public urged not to link Febrie Adriansyah case to President Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Gerindra Party spokesperson Sugiat Santoso has urged the public not to be easily swayed by circulating information, particularly narratives attempting to link the case of former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah with President Prabowo Subianto. He stated that all parties must respect the legal process and trust law enforcement officials to work professionally. The public, he said, should not be provoked by misleading information.

“President Prabowo has never intervened in the legal process, including in Mr Febrie’s case. The President’s stance is clear: he supports law enforcement proceedings in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations,” Sugiat said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.

The Deputy Chairman of House Commission XIII also urged lawyer Hotman Paris Hutapea not to link the legal case to President Prabowo Subianto. He argued that the case involving the former state official must be returned to the prevailing legal mechanism. All parties, he said, should respect the ongoing legal process without constructing narratives that implicate the presidency.

“Do not link this legal matter to the President, because that is wrong,” he asserted. He therefore requested all parties, including the legal team, to present their arguments through the available legal channels without steering public opinion to associate the President with the case. “Please present your defence or arguments through the available legal mechanisms. But do not drag the President’s name into it,” Sugiat said.

Previously, Hotman Paris announced on Friday (17/7) that he was representing Febrie Adriansyah. During a press conference at the Jampidsus building of the Attorney General’s Office, Hotman stated that his client had not been detained following questioning by the Attorney General’s Office. The prominent lawyer also described his client as a pride of Prabowo who was being criminalised without the authorities first ‘asking permission’ from Prabowo.
