Public Transport Ride Today Costs Only Rp1, Including KRL?
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is providing free public transport services today, Friday (24/4/2026), in commemoration of National Transportation Day. “Happy National Transportation Day on 24 April. We welcome it by providing facilities for ease or free rides,” said DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in a video post on his personal Instagram account, quoted Friday (24/4/2026). However, from an operational perspective, Transjakarta’s Head of Public Relations and CSR Department, Ayu Wardhani, explained that although the service is free, the system still records user trips with a symbolic fare of Rp1. “Through the Rp1 fare, we want to provide convenience while encouraging more residents to switch to public transport as an efficient and sustainable mobility choice,” said Ayu, quoted from Kompas.com. So, does this policy also apply to KRL Commuter users? This Rp1 payment policy only applies to the public using Transjakarta (BRT & Non BRT), MRT Jakarta, and LRT Jakarta. The policy does not apply to KRL users. Those using KRL today will still be charged the normal fee, starting from Rp3,000. The DKI Provincial Government hopes the public will take the opportunity to directly experience the available public transport services, so that in the future more residents switch to mass transport. This step is also expected to contribute to reducing congestion and curbing air pollution levels in Jakarta, which remain major urban challenges.
