Public Transport Passengers Surge by 80 Percent, Peak Return Flow Predicted for Tuesday Night

JAKARTA - The peak of the Eid return flow is predicted to occur on Tuesday night (24/3/2026). Head of the Jakarta Transportation Agency (Kadishub), Syafrin Liputo, stated that the movement of passengers returning from their hometowns to Jakarta has already begun since Monday (23/3/2026). “For now, based on yesterday’s monitoring compared to normal conditions, there has been about an 80 percent increase in the number of passengers,” Syafrin said at Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2026). For bus transport, Syafrin revealed a rise in the number of passengers returning from Eid travels at seven terminals, including Pulogebang Terminal, Kampung Rambutan Terminal, Kalideres Terminal, and Tanjung Priok Terminal. Additionally, increases in passenger numbers have occurred at Lebak Bulus Terminal, Grogol Terminal, and Muara Angke Terminal. “So today we see monitoring showing passengers heading to Sumatra or Java have risen considerably, and similarly, those coming from outside Jakarta to Jakarta will peak today,” he explained. For safety, Syafrin advised passengers to use official terminal services upon arrival in Jakarta. Furthermore, passengers are urged to remain alert to potential criminal acts. Previously reported, the Eid return flow has started to be visible at Kampung Rambutan Terminal in East Jakarta on Tuesday (24/3/2026). Based on Kompas.com observations, several buses were seen unloading passengers at the terminal’s arrival lane. Passengers alighting from the buses were observed carrying suitcases and large bags, as well as large cardboard boxes. Meanwhile, several porters approached newly arrived passengers to offer luggage carrying services. Stationary motorcycle taxis did not want to miss out, also offering their services to passengers. Some passengers chose to wait for taxis or online motorcycles, while others continued their journey using the LRT from Kampung Rambutan Station.
