As a loyal customer to "Warung Nasi Tim Baru" (Rice food stall) on Jl. Mangga Besar Raya, Jakarta, I was very pleased to know that a card-operated telephone has been installed in the stall. The community in that area badly needs such a telephone.

Unfortunately, only after two months the telephone is already out of order. The restaurant owner has reported the matter to Telkom but so far no repairs have been done. The public phone has been idle for about three months now.

Many outdoor public telephones are damaged because they are mishandled or vandalized by irresponsible people. This is quite understandable. But I cannot understand a telephone inside a building being vandalized.

After all, the restaurant proprietor benefits nothing from the public telephone being installed in his premises. But it can enhance his service to the community.
