Public telephone maintenance
Public telephone maintenance
From Neraca
In response to Supriyatna's letter in the Feb. 27 edition of Neraca concerning public telephones, we have the following comments:
* We checked two telephones at the police post near the UKI hospital in Cawang, South Jakarta, on Feb. 2 and Feb. 22, 1996. One unit was in good condition, and the other's coin box was out of order, and later repaired.
* We also checked the telephones in the UKI hospital on Feb. 22 and Feb. 28. The two card-operated telephones were in good condition, four of the five coin-operated telephones were in good condition and one is still under repair.
We have to maintain 7,498 public telephones in Jakarta, Bekasi and Cibinong. It should be noted that public telephones are sensitive to the weather and dirt, and are easily subject to vandalism. Service quality depends not only on the response of our staff, but the availability of spare parts and the discipline of the users. We kindly ask users to call 117 if they find a telephone that needs repairing.
