Public services idle in Kendari

KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Public services have ground to a
complete halt and were still not functioning as of Friday in the
city, fully four days after the Idul Fitri holidays were
officially over.

Almost all local government offices were still closed as most
Muslim public servants were neglecting their duties and citing
Idul Fitri and family visits as the reason for their absence,
Antara reported on Friday.

Most shops and traditional markets in the city remained closed
because their employees had not returned for work either.

A staff member from the Kendari port authority said he was
expecting the port to be overflowing with people returning from
their villages by next week. --Antara
