Public service first
Public service first
From Gatra
The change in National Police leadership has been followed by
public expectations of an improvement in police performance and
public service.
As law enforcers whose duties are concerned with society, the
police are expected to change the previous semi-militaristic
culture into a professional service-oriented culture.
Public complaints over police service become a fundamental
issue in building the police's image. At present, police service
is so inferior that the public tend to avoid dealing with the
police -- let alone the illegal fees imposed.
The public anticipates a change in the police's performance so
that dealing with the police becomes more pleasant.
The police will always be needed by society to maintain order.
The new police chief will hopefully revive the institution and
make the lives of the people more peaceful.
