We should feel grateful conditions in Jakarta have returned to
normal. Nevertheless, people should not let down their guard.

To anticipate unwanted situations, it is highly necessary to
inject the people with courage to ward off and even to fight
rioters and pillagers.

Night-watch groups are only one means to prevent rioting and
looting. I think another effective way would be to inject people
with courage. This could be done by religious dignitaries,
prominent citizens and Armed Forces leaders.

If the people showed enough pluck, rioters and looters would
not act violently and arbitrarily.
