Public in darkabout new bylaws

TANGERANG: Tangerang councillors got hot under the collar when they found out that administration officials had yet to make public the 23 new bylaws endorsed this year.

"We cannot understand why the new bylaws were not immediately notified to the public. What has the administration done with the Rp 50 million (US$5,882) allocated from the budget for the publication of the bylaws?" councillor Muhdiar said on Wednesday.

He claimed the administration had spent more than Rp 1 billion on draft and passing the bylaws.

Head of the administration's legal affairs office, Didi Budiarto, said the Rp 50 million provided for the publication of the bylaws was too small, but he didn't say whether the money had in the end been used for some other purpose.--JP
