Public Appreciates One-Way and Contraflow Traffic Engineering Policy
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The traffic engineering policy in the form of a one-way system and contraflow has become one of the keys to alleviating the density of the homecoming traffic flow. This policy has received a positive response from the public, especially from homecoming travellers who directly experienced its impact on their journeys. One homecoming traveller, Haryadi, who was travelling from Pulo Gebang to Semarang, admitted to experiencing smoother traffic flow this year compared to previous years. “This is very good what I felt; upon arriving here, there was no congestion at all, and that really supports me as a homecoming traveller heading to Yogyakarta,” said Haryadi. He also appreciated the readiness of the police apparatus, which he deemed prompt in maintaining smoothness and security during the homecoming flow. “Regarding the police at the entrance gates, rest areas with guards, or near where I rested, there was also a police officer there. Likely for Eid al-Fitr, when the time comes, they will have their members,” added Haryadi. Haryadi also compared this year’s homecoming conditions with the previous year, which was marred by congestion. However, this year he considered the homecoming to be running smoothly throughout the journey. “Last year, when I went home, I encountered congestion; now, to reach my village, I always anticipate congestion, especially because I’m travelling with family, my child, my wife; hopefully, the journey will be smooth,” explained Haryadi. In agreement, Putri, a homecoming traveller from Jakarta heading to Malang, also felt the benefits of implementing this traffic engineering. There was no congestion during the journey, and the one-way policy reduced travel time. “I’m quite happy because it’s indeed faster to arrive. I deliberately chose this time to reduce congestion, so if we get the real one-way, it reduces our travel time during this journey,” stated Putri. According to her, although congestion still occurs, the traffic conditions are far more controlled compared to previous years. “There is definitely overall congestion, but it’s more dispersed. In the past, it could take hours and claim many victims; now, no, it’s much better,” added Putri. Putri also expressed appreciation to all police apparatus who have worked hard to regulate the homecoming flow to remain smooth and safe. With the implementation of appropriate traffic engineering strategies and support from apparatus on the ground, it is hoped that this year’s homecoming flow can run more smoothly, safely, and comfortably for the entire community. “All members of the Indonesian National Police and local police stations, police officers, thank you very much for arranging our homecoming process in such a way that it can run smoothly, safe homecoming, comfortable family,” concluded Putri.
