Puan: When Women Care with Full Strength, Life Moves Forward

House of Representatives Speaker, Puan Maharani, stated that Indonesian women can play a significant role in Indonesia’s development. Indonesia has half of its population as women, therefore, their role in nation-building must be considered. “In Indonesia’s development, the perspective of women, who number around half of Indonesia’s population, must always be taken into account,” she said while speaking at the The Big Idea Forum (TBIF) for Kartini Day, ‘Women’s Power: Nurturing Life, Leading Change’, which took place on Thursday (16/4). Puan exemplified Kartini who kept moving forward even though she was not in a system that supported her struggle. “Kartini did not wait for the system to be perfect to start writing. And the system changed for her to write. Because, today’s forum is not waiting either. We are all already leading in our respective fields. And this is what we must nurture, and we must be confident to change it,” she said. Therefore, Puan stated that if women nurture with full strength, life will move forward. “So I am confident that every woman nurturing with full strength, life moves forward. When women lead with full knowledge, change becomes inevitable,” said Puan.
