Puan Urges Government to Explain Why Non-Subsidised Fuel Prices Have Risen
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has urged the government to explain why non-subsidised fuel (BBM) prices have suddenly been increased.
However, given the increasingly uncertain geopolitical situation, Puan understands that the government must mitigate preparedness related to fuel prices.
“With the existing increase in non-subsidised fuel prices, there must certainly be fairness. And an explanation must be provided as to why the price has risen, for how long, and whether the price will continue to rise or not. This evaluation must of course be communicated periodically,” Puan stated during a press conference at the DPR Building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026).
Puan said that the DPR is asking the government to mitigate all possible matters related to fuel.
“However, as a country that, although not directly affected, we must be prepared to anticipate and mitigate the possibilities that may occur,” she added.
It is known that non-subsidised fuel prices rose as of 18 April 2026.
Residents were shocked to see this sharp price increase.
