Puan Urges Companies to Provide Daycare for Employees' Children
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani is urging every company to provide childcare facilities or daycares specifically for employees who have children.
According to her, the provision of such facilities is already regulated under Law No. 4 of 2024 on Maternal and Child Welfare (KIA).
“We urge workplaces to provide decent daycares for workers, especially working mothers. This is a mandate from the KIA Law. The government also needs to ensure that every workplace complies with these regulations,” Puan stated in her remarks on Monday (27/4/2026).
She firmly stated that daycare providers must be able to earn the trust of parents who entrust their children to them while they work.
Considering that society’s need for daycare services is growing faster than the readiness of the protection system, the state must ensure security guarantees for children in childcare spaces.
“When parents entrust their children to a daycare, what they are handing over is not just childcare time, but full trust that their child is in a humane, safe, and decent environment,” Puan said.
“Of course, the alleged violence case at the daycare in Yogyakarta is a matter of great concern. We hope this case is thoroughly investigated, and relevant agencies provide protection for the child victims,” Puan added.
Meanwhile, the government is urged to tighten standard operating procedures (SOP) and supervision of childcare facilities or daycares in Indonesia.
This call was made by Commission IX member Arzeti Bilbina following the child abuse case by daycare staff in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta.
“The state must be present to ensure maximum protection for children from all forms of violence,” Arzeti stated firmly in her remarks on Monday (27/4/2026).
“This is our collective responsibility to ensure that every place trusted to care for children is a safe, healthy, and loving environment,” Arzeti said.
In addition, she demanded the operational closure of Daycare Little Aresha if it is proven to have committed violence against children.
