Puan Unfazed by Jokowi's Safari: It's a Citizen's Right to Visit Anywhere

House Speaker and PDIP Central Executive Board Chair Puan Maharani has no issue with Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) embarking on a political safari. Puan stated that every citizen has the right to visit any region in Indonesia. “A political safari is the right of every citizen to visit anywhere,” Puan told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Puan noted that the current global situation is uncertain. She expressed hope that all parties could maintain a conducive situation. “However, amidst the current uncertain global situation, it would be best if we could all work together to keep the situation conducive. That means, let’s not stir things up, just keep it calm,” she said. Jokowi is known to have begun his safari in Lampung. During the agenda, Jokowi wore PSI attributes; the party is chaired by his youngest son, Kaesang Pangarep. Jokowi conducted the safari in Lampung from Friday (26/6) to Sunday (28/6). He was seen wearing a PSI jacket after attending a Regional Leadership Coordination Meeting for the PSI Bandar Lampung City chapter. “If someone is already wearing the shirt, it speaks for itself,” Jokowi said briefly in Bandar Lampung.
