Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Puan Maharani has tasked DPR members from the Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) electoral district to assist with coordination regarding post-earthquake handling. She assured that the DPR continues to oversee the earthquake response process in NTT.

“We have also tasked our fellow DPR members from the NTT electoral district to continue coordinating and remain on standby there to do what is necessary and communicate what is needed,” Puan said in her statement on Tuesday (18/8/2026).

Puan again conveyed her condolences to the people of NTT and surrounding areas affected by the earthquake.

“NTT is not alone. The DPR, the Government, elements of society, political parties, God willing, are all working together to immediately accelerate the process or speed up the assistance that must be delivered there immediately,” she said.

Puan emphasised that the DPR RI, through the DPR RI Galapana Task Force, had visited NTT on Sunday (16/8). Led by Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, the Galapana Task Force reviewed and ensured the effectiveness of emergency post-earthquake handling in NTT under a single command together with the government and the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

The leadership and a number of DPR RI members are scheduled to revisit NTT together with relevant ministers. This includes Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to provide assistance as well as to review and push for budget reallocation.

Puan revealed that the DPR delegation would also provide assistance from the council.

“We have also coordinated; we will send assistance that has been checked regarding what is needed,” she explained.

“After that, we will hold another coordination meeting with the Government regarding what is needed in this emergency response process so that it can be accelerated,” she concluded.
