Puan says political safaris are every citizen's right in response to Jokowi's visits
House Speaker Puan Maharani stated that conducting political safaris is the right of every citizen, responding to the political visits of Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo to several regions. “Political safaris are the right of all citizens,” Puan said during a press conference after a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday. According to her, as a citizen, Joko Widodo can visit anywhere. She also urged all parties to engage in activities that cool the political atmosphere. Amid the current uncertain global situation, she said, all parties need to work together to maintain a conducive environment. Puan then declined to comment further on Jokowi’s visits. Joko Widodo visited Lampung on Friday (26/6) to attend a traditional title conferment ceremony, as well as political events for the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) and volunteers in the area. Prior to Lampung, Jokowi also visited Tegal, Central Java, to attend a PSI event. Jokowi said he would visit several regions to fulfil invitations from the public. In the initial phase, the regions to be visited include Lampung, East Nusa Tenggara, and West Java. Jokowi explained that the visits were also used to meet volunteers and PSI cadres in the regions. “I am in good health and will attend the invitations. It is also to provide motivation, meet PSI in the regions, and meet volunteers in the regions because there are invitations,” he said.
