Puan Says PDIP's Political Stance Is Clear, Dismisses 'Grey Area' Claims

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairperson of the PDIP Central Executive Board, Puan Maharani, has stated that the PDIP maintains a clear political stance, dismissing statements from politicians who characterise the position of the ‘white-snouted bull’ party as ‘grey’.

“Not at all, we are clear,” said Puan when questioned regarding the issue after presiding over a plenary session at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives responded briefly to the question without further elaboration. She made these remarks during a press conference alongside other leaders of the House of Representatives from various political parties, including the leader of the PKB Faction, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal.

The criticism regarding PDIP’s ‘grey’ stance was first voiced by the Chairperson of the PKB Faction, Jazilul Fawaid. He made the comment in relation to reports that a prominent PDIP cadre recently participated in demonstrations alongside students in Jakarta.

“If you wish to remain outside the government, please do so, but do not adopt a ‘grey’ attitude. That is what I mean,” said Jazilul at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday (19/6).

According to him, parties currently in coalition with the government are working hard to fulfil the promises of President Prabowo Subianto. He noted that for all programmes to meet their targets, unity and solidarity are required.

He further stated that political parties within the government ranks respect all differing opinions and views. Consequently, he believes PDIP’s position should be made explicit.

“PDIP’s current position is not yet firm. What does being a balancing party entail? This needs to be clarified. Various recent events make it even more important to ensure that position is certain,” he added.
