Puan Reveals Party Leaders Still Discussing Election Bill, What Are the Points?
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani stated that discussions on the Election Bill are still underway at the level of party leaders. Puan said that communication continues with party leaders.
“At the moment, we are still discussing it with the party leaders,” Puan said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (16/4/2026).
According to her, the main principle in drafting the Election Bill currently being discussed is to ensure that the quality of democracy remains maintained. She said that the resulting regulations must be able to present an effective election process and provide positive impacts for society.
“The most important thing is how the election process can run honestly, fairly, efficiently, and of course bring good benefits to the nation and state,” she stated.
Previously, Commission II Chairman of the House of Representatives Rifqinizamy Karsayuda said that revisions to the Election Law are targeted to begin discussions in July or August this year. Rifqinizamy explained that currently Commission II is taking two initial steps before bringing the prospective regulation to the official discussion stage.
“We are targeting around July or August (for the Election Bill discussion) after all the list of problem inventories has been properly compiled and the normative framework can also be arranged by us,” Rifqinizamy told reporters on Monday (23/2).
Rifqi explained that the first step being taken is to invite a number of electoral stakeholders. He said that the forum aims to accommodate aspirations and inputs related to crucial issues as well as the electoral design needed.
“Insyaallah after the opening of the recess period, this will also be continued to ensure that. This is part of what is called meaningful participation,” he said.
