Puan Reveals 4 Priority Bills for DPR After Recess, Election Bill Not Included
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has revealed four bills that will be the priority for discussion during the DPR’s fifth session from 12 May to 21 July. The statement was delivered by Puan during the plenary opening of the fifth session following the recess of DPR members, on Tuesday (12/5). “Honourable house session, the DPR RI together with the government will continue discussions at the first level on several draft laws,” Puan said in her speech. The four bills in question are the Bill on amendments to Law Number 4 of 2023 on the Development and Strengthening of the Financial Sector. Then, the Bill on International Civil Law, the Bill on amendments to Law Number 16 of 1997 on Statistics, and the Bill on Industrial Design. From that list, the Election Bill is not included, even though it has been urged by several parties following the election stages that will begin in mid-2026. After the plenary, Puan emphasised that the Election Bill remains a topic of discussion among the factions in the DPR. Discussions are conducted both formally and informally. According to Puan, they agree that the Election Bill must be discussed carefully. Her side claims it will not rush because the goal of good, honest, and fair elections must be the main objective. “This is indeed the time if it’s said to be approaching the time, that’s true. However, what is best for the people is what we prioritise most,” she said.
