Puan Responds to Prabowo Over PDIP’s Place Outside the Government: It’s Not a Question of Winning or Losing
Of course we very much appreciate the support and what PDIP does will always be carried out in ways that we will continue to pursue, as the President has said, that providing input or constructive criticism, Puan said at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
Puan then spoke about PDIP’s position with the seven other parties in the DPR. She said PDIP’s votes are not about determining win or loss.
“This is not about the argument of one against seven, but rather what we provide as input is input that can offer something constructive,” Puan said.
“So, it is not about winning or losing, but rather giving input so there can be improvements,” she added.
Earlier, Prabowo thanked PDIP for its position outside the government. Prabowo appreciated PDIP’s role as a counterbalance to his administration.
“Fellow citizens, thank you for the time given to me. Thank you for the honour extended to me, once again thank you for our cooperation,” Prabowo said as he closed his address on the government’s macroeconomic and fiscal outlook for 2027 at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 May.
Prabowo then recognised that not all factions in the DPR are part of his government. Only one faction in the DPR is outside the coalition, namely PDIP, Prabowo said he respected PDIP’s political stance.
“Indeed not all parties here are part of the government, and I respect and value that; our democracy requires checks and balances. I understand and recognise that PDIP sacrifices to be outside the government,” he said.
