Puan Responds to Nanik's Resignation as BGN Head: Hopes for the Best Replacement
House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has responded to the resignation of Nanik Sudaryati Deyang as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Puan expressed hope that the next BGN Head will be the best for the agency. “The best for Indonesia, that is all for now. We do not know yet, we have only just received the letter. I do not know the subsequent developments, I just heard the news that there was a resignation letter related to health issues. So, hopefully the replacement will be the best for BGN,” Puan said at the parliament complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (22/7/2026). Puan hopes that the new BGN leadership will be able to improve performance related to the government’s strategic programme. She called for an evaluation of the governance of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme. “They can evaluate and improve BGN’s performance. I am sure the best will come for the next evaluation,” she stated. Puan also urged that the replacement of the BGN Head be carried out as soon as possible. The DPR, she said, would monitor subsequent developments at BGN. “Certainly, because we are now in the process of evaluating all matters that must be evaluated. So, a replacement should be appointed as soon as possible,” she said. The Chair of the PDI-P Central Executive Board also commented on the plan for a BGN Supervisory Board. She expressed hope that whatever policy the government adopts will benefit the public. “We shall see. The most important thing is how BGN can improve its performance so that this programme can run better than we expect for Indonesia’s children,” she added. Previously, Nanik S. Deyang resigned as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Nanik’s resignation was also to undergo treatment for heart disease. “Today, 22 July 2026, Mrs Nanik Deyang bid farewell to President Prabowo to undergo heart treatment. She also resigned as Head of the National Nutrition Agency,” said Presidential Special Assistant for Communication and Policy, Dirgayuza Setiawan, on his Instagram account on Wednesday (22/7/2026).
