Puan: Polri must continue to prove commitment to serving the public

House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the 80th Bhayangkara Day anniversary must serve as a moment for the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to continue proving its commitment to serving the public.

“To all members of Polri whom I am proud of, happy 80th Bhayangkara Day 2026. Polri must continue to prove its commitment as a protector, guardian, and public servant,” Puan said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.

She reminded Polri that, as mandated by the constitution, its primary duties are to maintain public security and order, enforce the law, and provide protection, guardianship, and service to the community.

“Therefore, Bhayangkara Day 2026 must be a momentum to strengthen Polri’s legitimacy as an institution at the forefront of maintaining security, enforcing the law, and serving the public amidst increasingly complex social dynamics,” she stated.

Puan added that Polri’s success in the modern era is no longer measured solely by the number of cases solved or perpetrators arrested. She also assessed that strengthening Polri’s professionalism must be accompanied by an improved public accountability system, as public trust is the primary asset of a law enforcement institution.

According to her, every success in law enforcement, public service, and internal reform must be built through mechanisms that are open, measurable, and accountable. She expressed hope that at the age of 80, Polri would further strengthen its position as a state institution capable of maintaining national stability while becoming a partner to the community in providing a sense of security, legal certainty, and justice, which form the foundation of Indonesia’s development.

“Once again, happy 80th anniversary of Polri to all police personnel. Long live the Indonesian National Police,” Puan said. The DPR Speaker attended the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration ceremony held at the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) Training Centre in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, on Wednesday morning.
