Puan Pledges to Oversee 2026 State Budget to Protect Citizens from Declining Living Standards
JAKARTA – The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has ensured that the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) for the 2026 financial year can maintain public welfare amid global geopolitical dynamics.
“The House of Representatives will ensure that the fiscal capacity of the 2026 APBN remains able to protect and maintain the quality of life of the people, so that public welfare does not decline,” said Puan in a speech at the House.
She spoke during the Opening Plenary Session of the 2025/2026 Fourth Session at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
She stated that the impact of such conflicts would affect oil prices, transportation costs, commodity prices, the rupiah’s exchange rate against the US dollar, supply chains, economic growth, and fiscal resilience in implementing development.
Meanwhile, at the same time, continued Puan, the people still hold great hopes for the state to be present in creating job opportunities, increasing people’s incomes, improving access to quality education and healthcare services, and strengthening the people’s economy.
“Getting employment, seeing their income increase, receiving quality public services, and feeling safe and secure,” she said.
