Puan on the Election Bill: If It's Said to Be Approaching the Time, That's True
From previous session periods regarding the Election Bill, all parties have conducted discussions as I mentioned, informally or formally with the general chairmen and all colleagues to discuss the matter,” said Puan after the plenary session at the House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Puan assured that the DPR RI also wants the Election Bill to be formed in a way that does not harm the people. In addition, she said, elections can run honestly and fairly. “So whatever, we desire that the upcoming elections can be carried out honestly, do not harm the people, and can benefit the nation and state,” she stated. Nevertheless, Puan also admitted that the time for discussing the Election Bill is increasingly tight with the 2029 elections. However, according to her, the most important thing now is to think about how the bill can benefit the people. “This is indeed the time; if it’s said to be approaching the time, that’s true. But what is best for the people is what we prioritise the most. So we will continue to conduct discussions as best as possible, informally and formally,” she said.
