Puan on DPR dancing: This year will be more introspective and solemn

House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani stated that legislators will exercise greater self-restraint and follow the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD with more solemnity. “God willing, on the day, we will all certainly be more introspective, more solemn, and better able to conduct ourselves so we can focus more on following the state event,” Puan said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. Puan made the statement when asked about the evaluation of the previous year’s session, which drew public attention after several legislators danced to music following the official agenda. According to Puan, the expression was a form of joy after the series of official events had concluded. Nevertheless, Puan said that joy in commemorating independence can still be expressed while paying attention to the atmosphere of a state event. “Of course, it is permissible if we also feel happy that Indonesia, thank God, has been independent for 81 years,” she said. The MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD are scheduled to take place on Friday (14/8) from 08.30 to 11.00 WIB. After a break, the series of state agendas will continue with a DPR Plenary Meeting at 14.30 WIB. During the plenary meeting, the President is scheduled to deliver the government’s statement on the Draft Law on the State Budget for the 2027 Fiscal Year along with its financial notes. “We hope that during the presentation of the 2027 State Budget Bill, we will hear how the government conveys its priority programmes, which will certainly benefit the nation and state,” Puan said.
