Puan Maharani's Memories of the Late Try Sutrisno

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has expressed her condolences over the death of former Vice President Try Sutrisno, who passed away at the age of 90 on Monday, 2 March 2026. Puan reminisced about the retired TNI officer during their meeting at the House’s annual session in Jakarta in August 2025.

“I greeted him. And as usual, he was always warm and humble,” Puan said in a written statement on Monday.

Puan also remembered Try Sutrisno as a role model who was close to all generations. She valued Try’s passing as a moment in which Indonesia lost one of the nation’s humble figures.

“His contributions to the nation and country are immense. Indonesia mourns the passing of the late general,” said the PDIP politician.

Puan prayed that the late Try Sutrisno would be accepted at the side of Allah and that his bereaved family would be granted patience. The daughter of PDIP Chairman Megawati Soekarnoputri hoped that young generations would emulate Try Sutrisno’s contributions.

“May his struggle be continued by future generations, and may what Bapak Try Sutrisno left behind continue to benefit Indonesia,” Puan said.

The late Try Sutrisno passed away at Gatot Soebroto Central Armed Forces Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on 2 March 2026 at approximately 06:58 WIB. His body was planned to be washed at RSPAD and then taken to the funeral home at Jalan Purwakarta Number 6, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
