Puan Maharani Welcomes Miftachul and Gus Kikin as New PBNU Leaders, Offers Prayers for Success

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has welcomed the election of KH Miftachul Akhyar and KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz, also known as Gus Kikin, as the new leaders of PBNU. Puan expressed her gratitude that the 35th NU Muktamar in Jombang proceeded smoothly.

“Regarding the NU Muktamar, we, the leadership, would like to convey our congratulations on the successful and smooth execution of the NU Muktalam, and the election of Gus Kikin as General Chairman, and KH Miftachul Akhyar as Rais Aam,” Puan stated at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

She expressed hope that the new management would be able to lead NU towards a better future and that their implemented programmes would run successfully.

“Hopefully, with the conclusion of this NU Muktamar, NU will continue to function even better and carry out all necessary duties more effectively moving forward,” Puan remarked.

As previously reported, Miftachul Akhyar and Gus Kikin were elected as Rais Aam and General Chairman of PBNU for the 2026-2031 period during the 35th NU Muktamar in Jombang, East Java. The decision was reached through a consensus by the nine members of the Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA).

“The members of the Ahlul Halli Wal Aqdi (AHWA) have decided by consensus to elect KH Abdul Hakim, commonly known as Gus Kikin, as the General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board for the 2026-2031 term,” said KH Anwar Iskandar while reading the plenary session report of the 35th NU Muktamar in Jombang, East Java, on Monday (31/8/2026).

Gus Kikin’s election followed several stages during the muktamar. Initially, the delegates held a vote to shortlist the top five candidates for the PBNU General Chairmanship. From those results, Gus Kikin secured first place with 472 votes.
