Puan Maharani on Kaesang's Plan to Run in 2029 Legislative Election in Her Electoral District: It's Every Party's Right

PDIP DPP Chair Puan Maharani has responded to PSI Chairman Kaesang Pangarep’s plan to run in the 2029 Legislative Election (Pileg) in the Central Java electoral district (dapil). Puan said this is the right of every political party (parpol).

“It is the right of every political party to put forward any name in all electoral districts,” Puan said at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

Previously, Kaesang Pangarep announced that he would run as a legislative candidate (caleg) in the 2029 Pileg. He is targeting victory in the 2029 election.

As reported by detikJateng, Kaesang made the announcement during a visit to Solo. Initially, Kaesang wanted to meet with Persis Solo supporters. However, he also took the opportunity to visit the PSI Solo Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda).

Kaesang gave a number of directives to PSI cadres for 2029. The message he emphasised was that there must be no conflict between cadres running in the 2029 election.

“I ask for your support to remain solid so that we can win the election in 2029,” said Kaesang.

“The message I conveyed earlier was not my message as Chairman. It was my message as a prospective legislative candidate for the Republic of Indonesia, Central Java Electoral District V,” he continued.
