Puan Maharani Demands Thorough Investigation into Alleged Intimidation of Doctor Icha
House Speaker Puan Maharani has urged law enforcement to thoroughly investigate the alleged intimidation of a doctor by members of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) in Timor Tengah Utara Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The case involves Dr. Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dr. Icha, who was reportedly pressured while treating a patient at Leona Hospital in Kefamenanu.
Maharani emphasised that the investigation must be exhaustive and transparent. “It must be investigated, and the legal case must be resolved as clearly as possible,” she stated at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Her remarks follow the death of Dr. Icha, who was found deceased at her parents’ home in Kupang Regency on 26 June 2026. The doctor had allegedly faced intimidation from several TTU DPRD members on 13 June 2026, while treating a child patient who had been bitten by a snake.
Maharani also highlighted the need to protect healthcare workers performing their duties, insisting that any form of bullying or intimidation against medical personnel must not recur. “There was bullying, and it must not happen again,” she said, adding that medical staff must be able to work professionally without pressure from any party.
Addressing the alleged involvement of local parliamentarians, Maharani acknowledged that political parties have internal mechanisms for handling their cadres. However, she firmly stated that such internal processes must not obstruct the legal investigation and enforcement of sanctions if violations are found.
