Puan Maharani: 2027 State Budget to Approach IDR 4,000 Trillion

House Speaker Puan Maharani has stated that the 2027 State Budget (APBN), soon to be delivered by President Prabowo Subianto, is likely to approach IDR 4,000 trillion. She made the remarks during the opening of the First Session Period of the 2026-2027 Session Year at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 14 August 2026. Puan noted the state budget has seen a dramatic increase over the past 16 years. She highlighted that in 2000, the APBN stood at IDR 197 trillion, rising to IDR 1,126 trillion by 2010, representing a nearly six-fold increase over that decade. By 2026, the budget had reached IDR 3,842 trillion, an almost 20-fold increase compared to the year 2000. While acknowledging the sheer scale of the figure, Puan stressed that the state budget is fundamentally a political choice regarding the direction of national resources and who is prioritised. She insisted that such a large budget must ensure that the people truly benefit from it.
