Puan hopes draft domestic worker protection law will enable domestic workers to work well and comfortably
Jakarta — House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has expressed hope that the draft Domestic Worker Protection Law (PPRT) currently being processed in Parliament will enable domestic workers (ART) to work with comfort and harmony.
“We hope that we can safeguard harmony, uphold family values, and maintain cooperation with domestic workers and household staff currently working, so they can always work well and comfortably,” Puan said at Parliament complex in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).
Puan assured that the DPR RI will incorporate values concerning the public interest into the draft PPRT legislation. “Therefore, we also ask all elements of society to provide their input, so that the meaningful participation needed involves all parties,” she stated.
On this occasion, Puan assured that all laws discussed by the DPR RI involve both branches of government: the executive and legislative. According to her, each bill will be discussed by gathering input from all stakeholders and following existing mechanisms.
The DPR RI has approved the Domestic Worker Protection Law as a DPR RI legislative initiative. Following this approval, the draft PPRT will begin deliberations with the government.
Deputy Chair of the Law Commission (Baleg) Martin Manurung noted that several key points will be regulated in the draft PPRT, including recruitment procedures, social security benefits entitlements, education and training for domestic workers.
