Puan Honours Former Vice President Try Sutrisno as Warm and Close to All Generations
JAKARTA — The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has honoured Indonesia’s sixth Vice President Try Sutrisno as a warm and approachable figure who was close to all generations.
According to Puan, Try Sutrisno was a national figure who could serve as a role model across generations. His simple and humble demeanour made him widely accepted across all segments of society.
“Try Sutrisno’s figure is a role model who was close to all generations,” said Puan in a statement on Monday (2 March 2026).
“On behalf of myself and on behalf of the House of Representatives, I express my deepest condolences on the passing of Mr Try Sutrisno,” she added.
Puan recalled their last meeting during the annual parliamentary session at the Parliamentary Complex last year. “The last time I met the late Vice President was at the annual session at the House last year. I welcomed him. And as always, he was warm and unassuming,” said Puan.
She assessed that Try Sutrisno’s services and dedication to the nation were immense. Therefore, his passing represents a significant loss for all Indonesians.
“His services to our nation and state are truly enormous. Indonesia mourns the passing of the late Vice President,” said Puan.
Puan expressed hope that the values and principles of struggle that Try Sutrisno championed will be continued by future generations of the nation. She also prayed that the late Vice President would be accepted by Almighty Allah and that his grieving family would be given strength.
“May his deeds and worship ease the path of the late Vice President towards Allah’s paradise. And may the family left behind be given fortitude,” she concluded.
