Jakarta – House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has highlighted the phenomenon where critiques from experts towards the government end up resulting in police reports.

Puan stated that the law must be enforced as fairly as possible. However, she reminded that the delivery of criticism must be polite and full of ethics.

“The law must be enforced as fairly as possible, but we must also be able to uphold ethics in giving criticism so that it can be done politely,” said Puan to reporters at the Parliamentary Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday, 22 April 2026.

Puan mentioned that mutual respect and appreciation are needed between the giver and receiver of criticism.

According to her, criticism will be more easily accepted if its purpose is to build towards something better, not to attack.

“The recipient of the criticism will certainly accept it if the criticism is indeed something done in the sense of constructive criticism,” she concluded.

Previously reported, the polemic surrounding constitutional law expert Feri Amsari’s statements on food self-sufficiency has had long-lasting consequences. Metro Jaya Police have now confirmed receiving two police reports implicating Feri.

The two reports were filed by different parties with varying alleged violations. The first report concerns alleged dissemination of false news, while the second pertains to alleged public incitement.

“Regarding the police reports officially received by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Metro Jaya Police concerning the suspect FA (Feri Amsari),” said the Head of Public Relations Division of Metro Jaya Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, quoted on Sunday, 19 April 2026.

The first report is recorded under number LP/8/2692/IV/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA. In this report, Feri is alleged to have violated Article 263 and/or Article 264 related to false news. The complainant is Minta Ito Simamora from LBH Tani Nusantara.

Meanwhile, the second report is based on Article 246 of Law No. 1 of 2023 on public incitement. This report is recorded under number LP/8/25564V/2028/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA and was filed by a student with initials RMN.

Although the reports have been received, police emphasise that this is the institution’s duty in following up on public complaints.

“Certainly, in this case, Metro Jaya Police receives all reports from the public. This must be clarified, so there is no misinterpretation like ‘Oh, why is this accepted, why not this one’ and so on,” he said.
