Puan Expresses Condolences Over Death of Vice-President Try Sutrisno, Recalls Final Meeting

House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani expressed profound condolences over the death of Indonesia’s sixth Vice-President Try Sutrisno.

“On behalf of myself and on behalf of the House of Representatives, I convey deepest condolences over the passing of Try Sutrisno,” said Puan in a statement on Monday, 2 March 2026.

Puan prayed that the deceased Try Sutrisno would be accepted by Allah the Almighty, and hoped that the bereaved family would be granted fortitude.

“May his deeds and devotion ease the path of the deceased towards His paradise. And may the family left behind be granted strength,” said Puan.

Puan also remembered Try Sutrisno as a role model who was close to all generations. She and Try Sutrisno frequently met at national events.

“The last time I met the deceased was at the parliamentary annual session last year. I welcomed him. And just as always, he was warm and humble,” said Puan.

According to Puan, Try Sutrisno’s passing represents a loss for all the Indonesian people. She assessed that his contributions to the nation and state were substantial.

“His contributions to the nation and state are indeed very great. Indonesia mourns the passing of the deceased,” said Puan.

“May his struggle continue to be carried forward by future generations, and whatever legacy Mr Try Sutrisno left behind will continue to benefit Indonesia,” she added.

Try Sutrisno passed away at RSPAD Gatot Subroto hospital in Central Jakarta at the age of 90. He died at 06.58 Western Indonesia Time on Monday, 2 March.

President Prabowo Subianto led the funeral ceremony for Try Sutrisno. The funeral of Try Sutrisno was conducted with full military honours at Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta.

“May the path of service that he undertook serve as an example for us all, and may his soul find the best place beside the Almighty God,” said Prabowo.
