House Speaker (DPR) Puan Maharani has explained the reason the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD this year will be held on 14 August 2026. Puan stated that the session must be conducted on a working day.

“Why is it being held on Friday, 14 August, when it is usually held on 16 August? Because, in accordance with the rules, the annual session and the delivery of the State Budget Bill (RAPBN) are customarily not held on Saturdays and Sundays,” Puan said at the DPR building in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/8/2026).

In previous years, the Annual Session and Joint Session were held one day before Indonesia’s Independence Day, on 16 August. However, 16 August 2026 falls on a Sunday.

Puan stated that the schedule has been adjusted according to the applicable provisions. She emphasised that the schedule for the Annual Session and Joint Session has not been moved.

“So it is not being moved; it is indeed in accordance with the rules that it be held on a working day,” she said.

The Annual Session and Joint Session will commence at 08:30 WIB on Friday (14/8). Following this, she said, the session will continue with the delivery of the RAPBN by President Prabowo Subianto at 14:30 WIB.

Puan expressed hope that the entire series of events would proceed smoothly. She also mentioned that preparations for the event have currently reached approximately 80%.

“Tomorrow is the final preparation, and on Friday, God willing, everything will be ready to carry out the matters we have been preparing well in advance together with our DPR and DPD colleagues. God willing, everything will run well and smoothly,” she concluded.
