Puan Emphasises That Idul Fitri Is About Togetherness, Not Dates
House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani has invited the public to respect differences in the determination of Idul Fitri or 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah. The government has set Lebaran 2026 for Saturday, 21 March, while Muhammadiyah determined the start of the month of Syawal for Friday, 20 March.
“Even though there are differences in the date of Idul Fitri, let all parties continue to maintain togetherness and always build tolerance,” said Puan in a written statement quoted on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
According to the politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Idul Fitri is a moment to return to the pure human nature. After undergoing the fasting worship during the month of Ramadan, she invited Muslims in the country to welcome the day of victory with full gratitude and happiness.
Furthermore, Puan hopes that the Lebaran 2026 moment can strengthen national togetherness, so that it can build a better Indonesia. Because today is also known as a moment for mutual forgiveness and collective reflection.
Puan also asked the public to increase care for one another. “In this Idul Fitri moment, let us enhance our empathy towards others, especially those who are in need and require assistance,” she said.
Puan also highlighted the importance of social care amid global challenges that impact the national economic condition. She asked the government to be more sensitive and present in ensuring public welfare. “The people continue to place great hopes on the state to be present, especially in times when the people need it most,” stated Puan.
Furthermore, Puan asked the government to ensure the smooth operation of Idul Fitri support facilities, including transportation and mudik-return infrastructure. She wants the government to ensure the safety and comfort of the public during the Lebaran holiday. At the end of her statement, Puan conveyed Idul Fitri greetings to all Indonesian people, while asking for forgiveness in word and deed and sending warm regards to every family.
