Puan: Eid al-Adha 2026 a moment to foster unity and social compassion
JAKARTA, ANTARA - House of Representatives Chairperson Puan Maharani has urged all Indonesians to use the 1447 Hijriyah/2026 CE Eid al-Adha as an occasion to strengthen unity and social compassion.
She stated that Eid al-Adha, associated with the ritual of animal sacrifice and Hajj pilgrimage, is an ideal moment to reinforce social values.
‘Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, teaches us about sincerity and sacrifice,’ Puan said in a statement on Wednesday in Jakarta.
Puan performed the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Baiturrahman Mosque within the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, alongside DPR staff and local residents.
The prayer, led by Ustadz Sahid Darajat, was themed ‘Eid al-Adha: A Moment for Sacrifice to Strengthen Unity and Compassion for Others’.
Puan said Eid al-Adha is the perfect time for self-reflection on the meaning of sharing. ‘The Festival of Sacrifice also teaches us to be sensitive and compassionate towards others,’ she added.
She noted that Eid al-Adha demonstrates how Muslims follow the sincerity of Prophet Ibrahim and the steadfastness of Prophet Ismail by distributing sacrificial meat from those with abundance to others.
Therefore, Puan urged the public to internalise the meaning of Eid al-Adha as a collective call for the nation to strengthen solidarity, unity, and social compassion in facing various challenges.
‘Let us embody these Eid values through collective efforts to resolve national issues,’ Puan said.
After the prayer, Puan was photographed by several female worshippers. She then inspected the DPR’s sacrificial animals, scheduled for slaughter on Thursday (28 May).
Puan donated a one-ton Limousin bull to be distributed among DPR staff and surrounding communities.
She also expressed hope that the 2026 Eid al-Adha would raise awareness of the sacrifice exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, adding that such commemorations should make us more attuned to collective interests and more determined to fight for social justice.
‘On behalf of myself, my family, and the DPR RI, I wish a happy 1447 Hijriyah Eid al-Adha. Please forgive any wrongs, physical or spiritual. May every sacrifice we make, visible or hidden, elevate our lives as individuals and as a nation,’ Puan said.
