Puan: DPR Will Always Back Prabowo's Welfare-Focused Programs

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Speaker of the DPR RI, Puan Maharani, said the House would always support government programmes as long as those policies were aimed at the welfare of the Indonesian people. “Mr President, of course we in the DPR will always support all programmes planned by the Government as long as all programmes are undertaken solely for the welfare of all the people, the entire nation of Indonesia, for Indonesia to remain united for the Red and White,” Puan said during the plenary session. She delivered these remarks while presiding over the DPR RI plenary session at which Prabowo presented the Macro-Economic Framework and the Key Fiscal Policy Principles (KEM-PPKF) for the RAPBN 2027 on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. She said the draft APBN 2027 would be a crucial foundation for building welfare amid the global environment that remains uncertain. “The design of the APBN for the 2027 Fiscal Year will form the basis for the Macro-Economic Framework or the Key Fiscal Policy Principles of the RAPBN 2027 that will build Indonesia toward the welfare we all desire in the current uncertain global circumstances,” she said. Evaluation and input from the DPR, she added, are needed so that government programmes can operate more effectively. “Of course what has been prepared and planned by the Government at present, later on 4 June will be conveyed by all the factions in the DPR, to express their faction’s views, so that we can evaluate or give our opinions on whether the programmes can be implemented this year or next year,” Puan said. She noted that the synergy between the executive and legislative branches has, to date, been working well in supporting government programmes. “And whatever we do, I am convinced that the synergy and coordination between the executive and legislative branches, which has operated very well so far, will be in line with the President’s aspiration that mutual cooperation and unity in building the nation, purely for the welfare of the people, is for the unity and integrity of the Indonesian nation,” she said. “Therefore, as I understand it, after a few days of consolidation by the Government team, we hope that all programmes and achievements carried out in 2026 can be improved, evaluated, and the 2027 plan will be better, more planned, so that the programmes can be absorbed well and smoothly,” she added. Prabowo attended the DPR plenary session to present directly the KEM and PPKF RAPBN 2027. In this agenda, Prabowo became the first president to directly outline the macro-economic and fiscal policy directions of the government’s annual policy before the DPR. The plenary also discussed evaluating changes to the second National Legislative Programme (Prolegnas) Priority Bills 2026 and heard the views of factions regarding the Police Bill (RUU Polri) proposed by Commission III of the DPR.
