Jakarta – The Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, hopes that the proposed Domestic Workers Protection Bill (PPRT) will enable domestic helpers (ART) to work comfortably.

“We hope to maintain harmony, preserve family values, and ensure good cooperation involving domestic helpers and domestic workers who are currently working, so they can always perform their duties well and comfortably,” Puan told journalists at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

“And this applies not only to the domestic helpers or workers themselves, but also to those who employ them,” she added.

Puan stated that her office would involve public participation in drafting the Domestic Workers Protection Bill.

“All these values will be implemented in the best possible way, which is why we also request that all elements of society provide their input, so that the meaningful participation needed is indeed achieved by all parties,” she concluded.

Previously, the Indonesian House of Representatives officially approved the proposed Domestic Workers Protection Bill (PPRT) as a House initiative during a plenary session directly chaired by House Speaker Puan Maharani at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Initially, representatives from each of the eight parties in the House presented brief faction statements to leadership regarding the Domestic Workers Protection Bill.

Afterwards, Puan asked all attending assembly members whether the bill could be approved in the plenary session.

“With this, all eight factions have presented their respective faction statements. Now it is time for us to ask the esteemed assembly, can the proposed bill from the House’s Constitutional Law Commission regarding Domestic Workers Protection or PPRT be approved as a House initiative?” Puan asked the assembly members.

All members present in the plenary forum expressed their agreement.
