Puan Dismisses Claims PDIP is Ambiguous: We Are Clear

PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Central Executive Board Chairwoman Puan Maharani has responded to scrutiny of her party’s position as a balancing force, which has drawn attention from a government coalition party. Puan dismissed the notion that PDIP is ambiguous.

“No, we are clear,” Puan said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (2/7/2026).

Previously, the Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction in the House of Representatives, Jazilul Fawaid, had asked PDIP to take a firm stance regarding its position towards President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. Jazilul said an unclear attitude could create a confusing impression.

“I hope they will just take a firm stance. If they are in the opposition, then be the opposition. Don’t be ambiguous. Because we are all fighting hard to realise what the President promised. All the programmes have been arranged,” Jazilul said at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday (18/6/2026). Jazilul was responding to journalists’ questions about the alleged participation of Andi Widjajanto in a demonstration several days earlier.

He said that currently, the parties supporting the government are striving to oversee Prabowo’s various programmes so they run according to target. Therefore, he considered solidarity and clarity of stance from PDIP to be necessary.

“So, we hope their position is clear, not ambiguous. We are moving to ensure all programmes run according to target. And we know, yes, we all need unity and solidarity to carry out all the President’s programmes; without that, they cannot run. But don’t then take an ambiguous stance,” he said.

Jazilul stressed that his party respects all differing political views. However, he asked for a clear stance so as not to disrupt the running of the government.

“Yes, don’t be ambiguous in your stance. So far, we, or those in the government ranks, have respected all opinions from others. But, if there is an impression of disruption, that is not good for running the programmes. So, the position should just be gentlemanly,” he said.

Although PDIP has repeatedly stated it is a balancing party, Jazilul assessed that this is still not clear enough. He again asked PDIP to clarify its status.

“Not yet, not yet (not yet clear). Because so far there has been that impression, here and there, the position is not yet firm. Balancing like what, I don’t understand,” he said.

“So, the events that have occurred, in my opinion, mean they should just confirm their position, so we can move forward properly,” he added.
