PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) executive Puan Maharani has spoken out regarding her party’s position as a balancing force, which has come under scrutiny from a government coalition party. She dismissed suggestions that PDIP is ambiguous. “No, we are clear,” Puan told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 2 July 2026.

Previously, the Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) faction in the DPR, Jazilul Fawaid, had asked PDIP to clarify its position within President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. “I hope [PDIP] takes a firm stance. If it is the opposition, then be the opposition. Don’t be grey,” Jazilul told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 18 June 2026.

Jazilul stated that an unclear stance could create a confusing impression. “Because we are all fighting hard to realise what the President has promised. All the programmes have been well organised. So we hope the position is clear, not grey,” he continued. He noted that political parties supporting the government are currently working to ensure all of President Prabowo’s programmes run well and on target. He said solidarity is needed to execute these programmes. “Without that, nothing can proceed. But don’t be ambiguous either, I think,” Jazilul explained.

Jazilul then highlighted PDIP’s statement about being a balancing force in the Prabowo administration. In his view, this stance is not yet sufficiently clear. “Not yet, not yet. Because so far, there is an impression of being here and there. The position is not firm. I don’t understand what kind of balancing force that is. So I think the current situation requires ensuring the position is clear so we can move forward properly,” he concluded.
