Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Puan Maharani has dismissed assessments suggesting the party has an ambiguous position in President Prabowo Subianto’s administration. “(PDIP is considered grey?) No, we are clear,” Puan stated at the DPR, MPR, and DPD Complex on Thursday, 2 July 2026. The assessment of PDIP’s grey stance was previously voiced by Deputy Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Jazilul Fawaid. He urged PDIP to confirm its political position within the current government. He argued that PDIP’s claim to be a balancing force to the government has yet to demonstrate clarity. “Because so far there is an impression that its position here and there is not yet clear. What kind of balancing act it is, I do not know,” Jazilul said at the DPR, MPR, and DPD Complex on Thursday, 18 June 2026. Jazilul made the statement in response to circulating reports of PDIP politician Andi Widjajanto’s involvement in a student demonstration at the Hotel Indonesia Roundabout on Friday, 12 June 2026. The reports sparked speculation that the party was the mastermind behind the protest. The member of House Commission III assessed that PDIP’s unclear stance brings negative consequences for government programmes. He stated that realising Prabowo’s programmes requires unity and that coalition parties are currently striving to fulfil the head of state’s promises. Meanwhile, PDIP’s stance is considered capable of hindering progress in realising the Red and White Cabinet’s programmes. He therefore urged PDIP to openly affirm its position. “Because we are all fighting hard to realise what the President promised. All programmes have been launched. So, we hope its position is clear, not grey,” he said. Previously, another PDIP DPP Chair, Said Abdullah, denied allegations of the party’s involvement in the student movement. The Chair of the House Budget Committee requested that Andi Widjajanto’s activities not be considered as PDIP’s political stance. “The participation or sightseeing that appeared to involve Andi Widjajanto must not be interpreted as being PDI Perjuangan,” Said stated at the DPR building on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.
