Puan Demands Strict Sanctions for DPRD Members Allegedly Involved in Intimidation of Doctor Icha

House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has spoken out regarding the alleged intimidation by three members of the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) against Dr Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as Dr Icha, in North Central Timor (TTU), which preceded her death. Puan urged that the alleged intimidation be investigated thoroughly. “There was bullying, and it must not happen again. We must investigate and the legal case must be resolved until it is completely clear,” Puan told reporters at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday, 30 June 2026. She further insisted that the DPRD members involved be subject to strict sanctions. “Of course, each party whose members are involved has its own mechanisms. But what is certain is that legal sanctions or investigations must be completed thoroughly,” she explained. Dr Eliza Princita Utami Pakaenoni was diagnosed with severe depression after being shouted at by three TTU DPRD members while treating a patient for a snake bite. Two weeks later, the young doctor, affectionately known as Dr Icha, passed away. She died on Friday, 26 June 2026, at her parents’ home in the Baumata RSS Housing Complex, Kupang Regency, after being hospitalised for severe depression. Amidst the sobs of her family, her father, Gabriel Pakaenoni, stood with a trembling voice and delivered a statement that shook the consciences of the mourners: “Those three council members ended my child’s life.” The deceased was the eldest daughter of Gabriel Pakaenoni, a retired civil servant, and Nur, who is still an active state civil apparatus within the East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government. Gabriel’s statement referred to an incident that occurred two weeks earlier, on 13 June 2026, when Dr Icha was on duty at Leona Hospital in Kefamenanu, North Central Timor Regency, treating a child who was a snakebite victim.
