If it is indeed proven, then it must be resolved thoroughly.

he Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Puan Maharani, has requested that law enforcement agencies conduct a thorough investigation into the death of mirror trader Bambang Setiyawan (59) during the unrest in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta.

“We request that everything be investigated thoroughly by law enforcement,” Puan stated at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Bambang was found unconscious during the unrest in Pejompongan on Thursday (27/8) night and subsequently passed away after receiving medical treatment.

Puan stated that law enforcement needs to uncover the actual events that took place and find supporting evidence. Regarding the alleged involvement of the Gerakan Rakyat Indonesia Bersatu (GRIB) Jaya community organisation in the unrest, Puan left the investigation to the authorities.

“If it is indeed proven, then it must be resolved thoroughly,” she said.

Puan also reminded that demonstrations must be conducted in an orderly manner to prevent them from escalating into riots and destruction.

Previously, the Metro Jaya Regional Police revealed that Bambang was found unconscious during the unrest in the Pejompongan area on Thursday (27/8) night. The Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol. Budi Hermanto, stated that officers could not immediately evacuate the victim due to safety considerations amidst the chaotic situation.

“Once the location was secured, the Metro Jaya Regional Police Medical and Health Division immediately evacuated a man who was found unconscious,” said Budi.

The victim was subsequently taken to the Dr. Mintohardjo Navy Hospital for medical treatment, but he passed away. Bambang’s family declined an autopsy, meaning the exact cause of death has not yet been concluded through such an examination.

Meanwhile, GRIB Jaya has denied that its members were involved in Bambang’s death, stating that its members were not present in the Pejompongan area during the unrest.
