Puan Calls for Legal Sanctions Against Intimidators of Doctor Icha
House Speaker and PDIP executive Puan Maharani has responded to the case of alleged intimidation and bullying against doctor Eliza Princila Utami Pakaenoni, known as doctor Icha, which resulted in her taking her own life. Puan urged law enforcement to investigate the matter thoroughly to deliver justice for the victim and her family. She emphasised that bullying, especially when it leads to a fatality, cannot be tolerated and must serve as a turning point to break the cycle of violence in professional and organisational settings. “We must ensure this is investigated, and the legal case must be resolved with absolute clarity,” Puan said at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday. She also stressed that there must be legal sanctions for the members of the Timor Tengah Utara Regional House of Representatives who allegedly intimidated doctor Icha, leading to her suicide. Puan added that beyond criminal sanctions, the political party involved should impose ethical sanctions if violations are proven. She underlined that the resolution of organisational or party sanctions must not obscure or override the ongoing criminal process. Doctor Icha was found dead at her parents’ home in Baumata Housing Complex, Kupang Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Friday evening. She died by suicide following psychological pressure after allegedly being intimidated by a member of the Timor Tengah Utara Regional House of Representatives while treating a child patient bitten by a snake at Leona Hospital.
