Puan Calls for Idul Adha 2026 to Strengthen Unity and Compassion
DPR Speaker Puan Maharani has called on all Indonesians to make the 1447 Hijri Idul Adha a moment for fostering unity and compassion. Puan stated that Idul Adha, associated with the sacrificial ritual and Hajj pilgrimage, is the perfect moment to reinforce social values. “Idul Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, teaches us about sincerity and selflessness,” Puan said after attending the 1447 Hijri Idul Adha prayer led by Ustad Sahid Darajat with DPR staff and local residents at Baiturrahman Mosque in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The Idul Adha prayer, led by Ustad Sahid Darajat, was themed “Idul Adha: A Moment for Sacrifice to Weave Togetherness and Compassion for Others”. “The Festival of Sacrifice also teaches us to be empathetic and compassionate towards others,” said the first woman to hold the position of DPR Speaker, according to her press release on Wednesday. Puan noted that Idul Adha demonstrates how Muslims emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s sincerity and Prophet Ismail’s steadfastness by sacrificing from their abundance to others. Therefore, Puan urged the public to internalise the meaning of Idul Adha as a collective call for the nation to strengthen solidarity, unity, and social compassion in facing various challenges. “Let us embody these Idul Adha values through collective effort to overcome national issues,” Puan said. Puan herself donated a 1-ton Limousin cow to be distributed among DPR staff and local communities. “Idul Adha is eagerly awaited each year. I hope this year’s occasion builds awareness of the sacrificial meaning exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim,” she said. “The sacrifices we celebrate today should make us more sensitive to collective interests and more determined to fight for social justice,” Puan added. Puan expressed hope that Idul Adha would soften hearts and foster gentleness, particularly towards the poor. “On behalf of myself, my family, and the DPR RI, I wish a happy 1447 Hijri Idul Adha. Please forgive any wrongs, both physical and spiritual,” she said. “May every sacrifice we make, visible or hidden, become a path to dignify our lives as individuals and as a nation,” Puan added.
