Puan attends Eid al-Adha prayer at DPR mosque, donates 1-ton Limousin cow

House of Representatives (DPR) Chairperson Puan Maharani attended the Eid al-Adha prayer in 1447 AH at Baiturrahman Mosque within the MPR/DPR/DPD complex in Senayan, Jakarta. She joined the prayer alongside DPR staff and local residents on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. Following the morning prayer, Puan inspected the DPR’s sacrificial animals scheduled for slaughter the next day. She donated a 1-ton Limousin cow to be distributed among DPR staff and local communities. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) politician stated that Eid al-Adha is an opportune moment for self-reflection on the meaning of sharing. ‘The festival of sacrifice teaches us to be empathetic and compassionate towards others,’ she said in a written statement. Puan noted that Eid al-Adha demonstrates how Muslims emulate Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness and Prophet Ismail’s steadfastness by sacrificing from their abundance to others. She urged the public to internalise the festival’s significance as a collective national call to strengthen solidarity, unity, and social care. She added that the sacrifices celebrated should make society more attuned to collective interests and more determined to pursue social justice. ‘Let us embody the values of Eid through collective effort to overcome national challenges,’ Puan said. Puan also extended her Eid greetings to the public. ‘On behalf of myself, my family, and the Indonesian House of Representatives, I wish everyone a happy Eid al-Adha 1447 AH. Please accept my apologies for any wrongs done,’ said the daughter of former president Megawati Soekarnoputri. The Eid al-Adha prayer at the DPR mosque was led by Ustaz Sahid Darajat, who chose the theme ‘Eid al-Adha: A Moment for Sacrifice to Foster Unity and Care for Others’ in his sermon. This year, officials celebrated Eid al-Adha at various locations. Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, for instance, attended the prayer at Jakarta’s Istiqlal Mosque, while President Prabowo Subianto chose to travel to France for a state visit and will perform the Eid prayer at the Indonesian embassy residence in Paris with the Indonesian diaspora.
