Puan Asserts Election Bill Not Discussed Secretly, Political Communication Continues
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani stated that her side is not discussing the Revision of the Election Law (RUU Pemilu) secretly or behind closed doors. However, Puan acknowledged that communication continues among political parties regarding this RUU Pemilu. “Regarding the RUU Pemilu, it does have a time limit. And we continue to conduct political communications among political parties, and this is not done secretly,” Puan said at the DPR Building, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). “Communication can be done formally and informally. But political communication is always maintained,” she added. “It proceeds well, and the spirit of democracy must not harm the nation and state,” Puan further remarked. It is known that an internal meeting of the DPR RI’s Commission II to hear the initial presentation of the draft Election Law Bill (RUU Pemilu) was suddenly cancelled. Member of Commission II of the DPR RI, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, claimed he did not receive information regarding the reason for the cancellation of the meeting scheduled for Tuesday (13/4/2026), with the agenda being a presentation from the Council Expertise Agency (BKD). “That afternoon there was an internal meeting with the BKD but it was suddenly cancelled and postponed, and until now we still don’t know why,” he continued. This explanation was given by Doli in response to questions about the progress of drafting and discussing the RUU Pemilu, after having held several public hearing meetings (RDPU).
