Puan: 2027 State Budget Approaching Rp4,000 Trillion, a 'Very Large' Figure

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani has revealed that the state budget (APBN) capacity for 2027 could potentially approach the level of Rp4,000 trillion.

She made the remarks while delivering the opening speech at the DPR Plenary Session, which included on its agenda the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s speech presenting the Government’s introduction and statement on the Bill on the 2027 State Budget along with the Financial Note and supporting documents.

“The 2027 State Budget, which will shortly be delivered by the President, could see our state budget approaching a spending figure of around Rp4,000 trillion,” Puan said at the Parliament Building, Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2026).

Puan stressed that if the state budget capacity, as reflected in the level of state spending, reaches the range of Rp4,000 trillion, the amount would certainly be very large compared with previous years.

“Perhaps none of us has ever seen so much money as nearly Rp4,000 trillion. That figure is so large, indeed very large,” she asserted.

Puan noted that in 2000, the state budget stood at Rp197 trillion; in 2010 it was Rp1,126 trillion; indicating that within those 10 years, state spending rose almost sixfold.

Meanwhile, in 2026 the state budget is Rp3,842 trillion; an increase of almost twentyfold compared with 2000.

“Any figure, however large, feels meaningless if it cannot yet answer the people’s hopes and concerns,” Puan said.
