PU Minister Optimistic Subulussalam People's School Will Soon Be Functional
Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo is optimistic that the construction of Sekolah Rakyat Aceh 2 in Subulussalam City, Aceh Province, will soon be functional despite previous constraints in procuring construction materials. The Minister noted that Subulussalam’s location in a border area, far from material distribution centres, means the delivery of construction materials, particularly steel and heavy materials, takes longer compared to other regions. “We must acknowledge that the Subulussalam location is quite challenging from a logistical standpoint. Transporting materials here is not easy. Even the overland journey to the site is difficult, let alone transporting large quantities of construction materials,” said Minister Dody. He visited the field directly on Saturday, 13 June 2026, to find solutions to accelerate the construction of Sekolah Rakyat Aceh 2. The ministry is implementing technical innovations and acceleration strategies, including optimising the use of concrete structures in some parts of the building to reduce reliance on steel materials, which have a more complex delivery process. “We are looking for a more effective working method. Some points originally planned to use steel will be evaluated for partial replacement with concrete so that construction can proceed more quickly without compromising building quality,” said Minister Dody. He stated that overall, the progress of the Subulussalam People’s School construction shows positive development and he is optimistic the project can be completed on time. “Looking at the conditions on the ground, progress is already around 60 percent. We will continue to find the best, fastest, and most effective ways to complete this construction. The most important thing is not just finishing quickly, but also producing a quality building that can be utilised in the long term,” said Minister Dody. According to a progress report as of 13 June 2026, material availability at the site has reached approximately 62 percent, with the remainder in the process of being shipped to Subulussalam. Acceleration strategies being applied include material delivery via sea and air routes, provision of a batching plant at the project area, addition of heavy equipment, and support from TNI personnel. Sekolah Rakyat Aceh 2 in Subulussalam is being built on a 6.8-hectare plot of land with a contract value of IDR 453.3 billion, executed by contractor PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk. This integrated educational complex will be equipped with various educational and supporting facilities, including primary, junior high, and senior high school buildings, student dormitories, teacher housing flats, a mosque, a multipurpose hall, a mini football pitch, basketball and volleyball courts, and other supporting facilities.
