PU Minister Optimistic Subulussalam People's School Will Soon Be Functional

Banda Aceh (ANTARA) - Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo is optimistic that the construction of the Aceh 2 People’s School in Subulussalam City, Aceh Province, will soon become functional, despite facing delays in the procurement of construction materials.
In a statement received in Banda Aceh on Sunday, Minister Dody Hanggodo noted that the location of Subulussalam, which sits on a border region far from material distribution centres, makes the delivery of construction materials—particularly steel and heavy materials—take longer than in other regions.
“We must admit that the Subulussalam location is quite challenging from a logistics perspective. Transporting materials here is not easy. Even the land journey to the site is quite difficult, let alone transporting large quantities of construction materials,” said Minister Dody.
He admitted to visiting the site personally to find solutions to accelerate the construction of the Aceh 2 People’s School in Subulussalam on Saturday (13/06/2026).
His department is implementing various technical innovations and acceleration strategies, one of which involves optimising the use of concrete structures in certain parts of the building to reduce dependence on steel, which has a more complex delivery process.
“We are searching for more effective working methods. Several points originally planned to use steel will be evaluated and partially replaced with concrete so that construction can proceed more quickly without compromising the quality of the building,” said Minister Dody.
He stated that, overall, the progress of the Subulussalam People’s School project is showing positive development and he is optimistic that the project can be completed on time.
“Looking at the conditions on the ground, progress is at approximately 60 per cent. We will continue to seek the best, fastest, and most effective way to complete this construction. The most important thing is not just finishing quickly, but also producing a high-quality building that can be utilised in the long term,” said Minister Dody.
Based on the implementation report as of 13 June 2026, material availability at the site has reached approximately 62 per cent, while the remainder is in the process of being shipped to Subulussalam.
Acceleration strategies are also being applied, ranging from transporting materials via sea and air routes, providing a batching plant within the project area, and adding heavy equipment, to receiving support from TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) personnel.
The Aceh 2 People’s School in Subulussalam is being built on 6.8 hectares of land, with the executing contractor being PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk, under a contract value of Rp453.3 billion.
This integrated educational area is equipped with various educational and supporting facilities, including primary, junior high, and senior high school buildings, student dormitories, teacher flats, a mosque, a multipurpose hall, mini soccer fields, basketball and volleyball courts, and other supporting facilities.
